Fat Reduction Technique

CoolSculpting® is a fat reduction technique that takes advantage of the fact that fat cells are damaged at different temperatures than other bodily cells. The technique is called cryolipolysis. The cold applied to the treatment areas causes the fat cells there to fill with ice crystals and rupture, and they are removed over time by the body.

The CoolSculpting® Session

The client has a consultation with the skin remedy aesthetician before they have CoolSculpting® to find out if they’re a good candidate. They should be an adult in good mental and physical health who is near their ideal weight but still has pockets of fat that just won’t go away. CoolSculpting® isn’t recommended for people who have such conditions as paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria or cryoglobulinemia. These conditions cause damage to the red blood cells in response to cold.

During the treatment, the patient lies on a couch or treatment table. The aesthetician puts a gel pad over the place to be treated, whether it is the upper back, upper arms, abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. The gel protects the patient from the cold of the applicator. The applicators can be of different sizes depending on where the problem area is, and newer models are more comfortable.

The applicator might cause the client a bit of discomfort until the cold numbs the area. After that happens, the aesthetician covers the patient with a blanket, and they can relax, work, read, listen to music or even sleep. After about an hour the aesthetician removes the applicator and gives the client a massage in the treatment area. This helps to revive the blood flow, further break up the damaged fat cells and stimulate the body to start removing them.

After the session, the client can go home or resume their usual schedule. They do not need someone to drive them home or stay with them overnight. There is some soreness, numbness and bruising after CoolSculpting®, but this goes away after a week or so. Most clients begin to notice a difference after a few months, especially when they find that they have dropped about a size in their clothing. The actual fat reduction can be as much as 40 percent. Aestheticians recommend that clients have at least two CoolSculpting® sessions for best results.
